Members research and discuss a wide variety of topics which in 2025 included the geology around earthquakes and volcanoes and the improving diagnosis and treatment of many cancers including the repurposing of common drugs like aspirin to treat metastatic cancers. We also looked back at the scientific legacy of world-famous researchers like Jane Goodall and James Watson, who both died in 2025. One group member attends Scottish Microbiology meetings and feeds back to us any interesting research. We discuss clean energy production often and have talked about using geothermal energy to heat water. Climate change and its consequent effects on the natural world around us is another favourite topic. Our discussions cover a broad spectrum of topics and are relaxed and fun. No qualifications are needed, just an interest. The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 2pm at Glencorse Golf Club.
